Bell Tolls For PawSox As Tides Get Blanked

May 19, 2010 - International League (IL1)
Pawtucket Red Sox News Release

Bubba Bells' bat rang loudly on Tuesday night as he clobbered a three run homer and added an rbi single to lead the PawSox (19-20) to a 6-0 win over Norfolk at Harbor Park. It was Bells' first homer of the year and his first since last season in Virginia. Aaron Bates got the offense started with a solo homer in the second inning, his fourth of the season. Jorge Jimenez knocked in the other Pawtucket run with a sacrifice fly. Bates is riding a ten game hitting streak and Jimenez' streak ended at 7 in a row.

The pitching was sensational. Kris Johnson (3-2) threw 6 shutout innings, scattering 6 hits. Johnson struck out 4. For KJ, it was his second win in as many outings. Scott Atchison worked one frame and after giving up a leadoff double to Michael Aubrey, he struck out the next three hitters he faced. In the eighth, Dustin Richardson came in and fanned Robert Andino, Rhyne Hughes and Josh Bell, in order. In the ninth, Richardson struck out Nolan Reimold and Brandon Snyder. Eight strikeouts in succession. After a Norfolk base hit, a triple by Aubrey, Michel Hernandez grounded out to end the game. In all, Pawtucket hurlers whiffed 12 batters. It was the seasons third shutout.

The series continues on Wednesday at 7:15 p.m. Michael Bowden (1-1, 5.93) faces Chris Tillman (3-4, 3.83).
