Tides Triumph over Pawsox

May 19, 2010 - International League (IL1)
Norfolk Tides News Release

Scott Moore clubbed two home runs and Chris Tillman tossed seven shutout innings as the Tides knocked off Pawtucket 5-2 Wednesday night from Harbor Park.

Moore, who had not played since May 13 due to a left hamstring strain, slugged a two-out shot in the second inning and a solo blast in the sixth. Moore now has five home runs this season, four of which have come at pitcher-friendly Harbor Park.

Tillman (4-4) turned in another strong outing, as the 22-year-old held the Pawsox to three hits and two walks while striking out four. Tillman retired each of the final eight batters he faced, throwing 65 of his season-high 112 pitches for strikes.

Over his last six starts, Tillman is now 4-1 with a 2.14 ERA (10-ER, 42.0-IP), 30 hits allowed, seven walks and 30 strikeouts.

Justin Turner also connected on a two-run homer in the contest for the Tides, his first of the season.

Pawtucket cut Norfolk's 5-0 lead to 5-2 with single runs in the eighth and ninth innings, but Tides closer Frank Mata struck out Ryan Khoury with runners at second and third to end the contest and register his eighth save of the season.

Bubba Bell led the Pawsox offense with two hits and an RBI, while Lars Anderson added a double and a single.

Michael Bowden suffered the loss, falling to 1-2 on the season. Bowden surrendered five runs on six hits in seven innings of work.

The two clubs will continue their four-game series on Thursday night, as Jake Arrieta (3-2, 2.20) will take the mound for Norfolk against left-hander Fabio Castro (2-2, 6.56). Game time is scheduled for 7:15.
