Utica Comets News Release

The Utica Comets will honor the men and women who have served, and continue to serve, our country with their inaugural Salute the Troops Night this Saturday, March 29. The festivities will begin in the afternoon with the Upper Mohawk Valley Memorial Auditorium Authority members dedicating an enhanced memorial to war veterans that will be unveiled inside the Utica Memorial Auditorium during a private ceremony.

Representatives from the Air Force, Air National Guard, Army, Navy and the Marines will all be in attendance for the unveiling as well as representatives from the Upper Mohawk Valley Memorial Auditorium Authority and local government officials. Fans will be able to view the memorial, located just inside the Labatt Blue Ticket Entrance, at Saturday's game.

The Comets are offering military service members, including veterans, a special $12 ticket for any available seat to Saturday's game, against the Abbotsford Heat, when they show a valid military ID at the box office. Tickets have also been purchased by Coca-Cola, Hughes Construction, New York State Tool, Parkway Drugs and Snowbelt Santa and donated to local military branches.

The US Marine Corps and the National Guard will have displays and games on the concourse for fans to compete and learn more about these branches of the military.

Utica will be raising money to benefit the Central New York Veteran's Outreach Center (CNYVOC) through their 50/50 raffle from Saturday night's game. The team will also be holding a "Round up the Rink" campaign where fans will have the ability to donate their change from purchases at the concession stand.

The CNYVOC was formed to provide and conduct charitable, educational, social service, and housing services for veterans in need. CNYVOC is in the process of creating a resourceful, one stop facility in Utica for veterans residing throughout Central New York. When complete this facility would offer, among other services, transitional housing for homeless veterans with permanent housing for disabled and elderly veterans, plus a wide variety of other services.
