Rampage Drop 6-3 Decision to Hamilton

SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Rampage (27-31-3-6) fell to the Hamilton Bulldogs (29-32-1-4) on Friday night in front of a crowd of 9,112 at the AT&T Center.

Michael Houser tied a career-high, making 44 saves to earn the Third Star of the Game and the Rampage got a goal each from Jared Gomes, Wade Megan, who was playing in his 50th AHL game, and Matt Gilroy, whose shorthanded tally in the second period gave the Rampage its ninth shorthanded goal this season.

Greg Rallo became the third player in franchise history to play 200 games with the Rampage, joining Brett MacLean and Sean Sullivan.

The Rampage opened up the scoring early in the first period as Josh McFadden, skating along the half boards, sent a pass to Megan waiting on the doorstep to make it 1-0 at 3:17.

Hamilton knotted the game at one at 11:40. With five second left on the power play, Nathan Beaulieu sent a pass to Maxime Macenauer on the doorstep and he tipped it in. Sven Andrighetto made it 2-1 late in the first frame, skating uncontested into the slot and firing a high shot past Houser.

With San Antonio on the penalty kill near the midway point of the second period, Logan Shaw picked up the puck in the neutral zone and got a jump on the Hamilton defense. Devan Dubnyk made a stop on Shaw's breakaway shot, but Gilroy was there to punch home the goal to tie the game at two at 6:54.

The Bulldogs took their second lead of the night on Macenauer's second tally. Houser let up a rebound on a Christian Thomas shot and Macenauer was there to bury it, and the Bulldogs took a 3-2 lead into the second intermission.

The Silver and Black didn't waste any time getting going in third period, as Gomes tallied his third of the season just 52 seconds into the frame. Gomes got the initial shot off on a wraparound and Jed Ortmeyer picked up the rebound and fed it back to Gomes for the marker.

Hamilton answered as Greg Pateryn tallied his first goal and third point of the night to give the Bulldogs a 4-3 lead at 2:28. They extended their lead to two goals at 6:15 as Macenauer carried the puck past the goal line and passed to Thomas in front to make it 5-3. Jordan Owens scored an empty net goal with 42.3 seconds left to account for the final 6-3 score.

The Rampage finished 0-for-3 on the power play while Hamilton scored one power play goal on four opportunities. Hamilton outshot San Antonio 50-23.
