Pirates Forward Brendan Shinnimin Pledges Donation to Fight Cancer as Part of Purple Night
March 28, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Portland Pirates News Release
Portland, Maine - Portland Pirates forward Brandon Shinnimin has pledged a donation to Central Maine Comprehensive Cancer Center as part of the Portland Pirates' 2nd Annual Purple Night presented by Central Maine Medical Center. Shinnimin, a second year forward from Winnipeg, Manitoba, has pledged $10 for every shot by the Pirates and $25 for every Pirates goal scored as the Pirates take on the Providence Bruins tonight at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston.
"Purple night, cancer awareness night, is a pretty huge thing," Shinnimin said. "Obviously, there are a lot of people that suffer from cancer. I've got a little thing going here where I'm going to donate ten dollars for every shot we get on net and 25 dollars for every goal we score. We're looking for some sponsors to maybe match my donation and hopefully this small thing can turn into something big, get a couple sponsors donating and make money to help change people's lives."
The Portland Pirates ownership group, the Pirates' strategic sales & marketing agency Shamrock Sports and Entertainment, and Pirates sponsor On Target Utility Services have pledged to match Shinnimin's donation to Central Maine Comprehensive Cancer Center. The Pirates and Shamrock Sports and Entertainment have challenged their corporate partners and any other local businesses to match Shinnimin's donation amount, which will be announced after the game. Interested sponsors and businesses can contact Tim Renyi at Shamrock Sports and Entertainment at tr@shamrockse.com for more information.
"We're very proud of Brendan for taking the initiative to donate to Central Maine Comprehensive Cancer Center for this very important event, " said Pirates COO Brad Church. "We hope that our corporate partners and local businesses join Pirates ownership, On Target Utility Services, and Shamrock Sports and Entertainment in matching Brendan's generous donation to support Central Maine Medical Center's efforts to provide cancer care and support."
As part of Purple Night, the Pirates will donate all proceeds from their 50/50 raffle during that night's game to the Central Maine Comprehensive Cancer Center to support the center's treatment and research efforts. In addition, a Pirates practice jersey signed by movie and television star Patrick Dempsey will be raffled off, with all proceeds benefitting the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing. The Pirates will wear special purple jerseys, which will be auctioned off at a later date on eBay with 75% of the proceeds donated to Central Maine Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Fans are encouraged to wear purple to tonight's game. Tickets are available by calling the Androscoggin Bank Colisee Box Office at (207) 783-2009 ext. 525 or online at thecolisee.com.
The Pirates have announced eight guaranteed dates for the 2014-15 season as the Pirates return to the Cumberland County Civic Center!
