IceCaps Clipped by Senators

March 28, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
St. John's IceCaps News Release

Despite a stellar effort from goaltender Tyler Beskorowany, the St. John's IceCaps fell 2-1 to the East Division-leading Binghamton Senators Friday at Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena in Binghamton, NY.

Beskorowany made 38 saves but it wasn't enough as the Senators scored twice in the third to record the comeback victory.

Jason Jaffray scored the lone goal for St. John's, while Matt Puempel and Shane Prince had the tallies for Binghamton. Andrew Hammond stopped 40-of-41 shots for the win.

After nearly two scoreless frames between two of the top offences in the AHL, Jaffray got the visitors on the board at 16:59 of the second. Ben Chiarot corralled the puck at the left point and wristed a shot towards the net that was redirected by the IceCaps captain for his 18th of the season.

The Senators tied it up in the third on a four-minute power play. Stephane Da Costa gained the offensive zone and slipped a pass in front to a streaking Puempel, who shovelled in his 25th to make it a 1-1 game.

At just past the halfway mark of the third, the Senators took the lead. Da Costa made a great feed cross-ice to Shane Prince, who rifled a wrist shot past Beskorowany for the eventual game-winner.

The IceCaps travel to Hershey to face the Bears in the final game of a six-game road trip that has seen the club post a 3-2-0-0 record to date. Catch all the action with broadcaster Brian Rogers at www.stjohnsicecaps.com and on 930 AM, or watch at www.ahllive.com. Puck drop is set for 8:30 p.m. NT with the pregame show getting underway at 8:00.
