Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
NORFOLK, Va. - The dynamic duo of Chuck Kobasew and Andrew Ebbett continued their scoring streaks on Friday night.
Ebbett set up Kobasew's second period goal less than a minute into the second period, and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins posted a 2-1 win over the Norfolk Admirals at the Scope on Friday night.
With the victory, the Penguins (37-22-3-5, 82 points) moved five points clear of the Admirals (34-23-2-7, 77 points) in the East Division standings. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton also kept pace with the Binghamton Senators, who defeated the St. John's IceCaps, 2-1, to maintain their one point advantage in the division race.
The Penguins entered the second period on Friday carrying a 1-0 lead thanks to the newest member of the team. Josh Archibald, the Hobey Baker candidate who made his pro debut on Wednesday against the Providence Bruins, netted his first AHL goal at 14:05 of the first period to give the visitors the early lead.
Ebbett and Kobasew connected to beat John Gibson just 42 seconds into the second period for what proved to be the game-winning goal for the Penguins. Ebbett has now assisted on five of Kobasew's seven goals with AHL Penguins, and extended his assist and point streaks to 10 games each.
Kobasew, meanwhile, has scored in every game of his Wilkes-Barre/Scranton career thus far, and now has the longest goal-scoring streak in the AHL this season.
Emerson Etem scored the lone Norfolk goal about 12 minutes after Kobasew's tally. It was Etem's 17th of the season, third-best on thep Admirals' roster.
Peter Mannino posted another strong outing between the Penguins pipes, stopping 19 shots for his sixth win in nine decisions since being recalled from Wheeling in late February.
The Penguins and Admirals will conclude their eight-game season series tomorrow night at 7:15pm at the Scope.
