Santa Cruz Warriors Fall to Memphis Hustle in Final Seconds,122-121

SOUTHAVEN, MS - The Santa Cruz Warriors (7-6) fell to the Memphis Hustle (6-7) on Monday night at Landers Center in Southaven, Mississippi, 122-121, snapping the team's six game win streak.

Warriors guard Kendric Davis led both teams with 31 points and added seven assists. Guard Donovan Williams finished the night with 26 points and seven rebounds, and two-way center Usman Garuba added 13 points and 10 rebounds. Guard Pat Spencer finished with 15 points, seven rebounds and six assists off the bench.

Forward Cameron McGriff led the Hustle with 30 points and added eight rebounds in the Memphis victory. Guard DeJon Jarreau added 22 points, nine rebounds and nine assists, and guard Lucas Williamson notched 23 points.

The first quarter saw 10 points each from Williams, Spencer and Garuba, helping the Warriors take an early lead until an offensive push from the Hustle tied the contest at 20 with less than five minutes remaining in the frame. Back-to-back shooting fouls late in the quarter on Garuba helped push Santa Cruz's advantage to 38-32 to close out the first frame. The Hustle tied the contest twice in the second quarter, however a three-point shot from forward Javan Johnson helped the Sea Dubs maintain a 52-49 lead mid-way through the quarter. The game remained close throughout the remainder of the first half, with the Warriors holding the lead, 65-63, to close out the second quarter.

The Hustle took their first lead of the contest mid-way through the third quarter and pushed their advantage to as many as nine points, closing out the frame with a 95-89 lead. Memphis extended their lead to 10 points to open the fourth quarter, however Santa Cruz slowly fought back and a jumper from Johnson tied the contest at 109 with five minutes remaining. The Hustle regained the lead until two made free throws from Williams gave the Warriors the advantage, 121-120, with 1.8 seconds to go. An alley-oop dunk from Memphis forward Adonis Arms to McGriff in the final second secured the win for the Hustle, 122-121.

The Warriors will now return to Santa Cruz to face the Texas Legends at Kaiser Permanente Arena in a back-to-back series on Friday, February 2 and Saturday, February 3 with both games at 7:00 p.m. (PT). Friday night marks the team's Black History Month Celebration, with the first 1,000 fans in attendance receiving a Black History Month Rally Towel.
