Herd Brings the Magic Touch in Victory over Osceola

OSHKOSH, Wis. - The Wisconsin Herd, NBA G League affiliate of the Milwaukee Bucks, beat the Osceola Magic 112-110.
Stevie Thompson Jr. powered the Herd with a career-high 27 points while Elijah Hughes added 21 points. Three players posted a double-double including Wenyen Gabriel (21 points, 10 rebounds), Marques Bolden (18 points, 10 rebounds) and Malachi Smith (17 points, 11 rebounds).
The Osceola Magic's top scorer was Jett Howard with 26 points followed by Alex Morales with 19 points.
Glenn Robinson III knocked down a layup to give the Herd the first lead of the game. The Herd rallied to go up 10-3 within the first three minutes. The Magic answered with two straight baskets, but the Herd countered with a huge run to take a double-digit lead. Wisconsin held an 11-point advantage for two minutes until Osceola scored two consecutive baskets. The Magic continued to fight back making it a one-point game. Marques Bolden and Malachi Smith hit a basket each to keep the Herd in control. Despite the Magic's comeback, the Herd held on to go ahead 31-30 at the end of the first quarter.
Osceola converted on five straight points to open the second quarter and take their first lead of the game. Three minutes into the quarter, Elijah Hughes hit three sequential baskets to tie the game 40-40. Malachi Smith followed with a layup to put the Herd on top. The teams battled, resulting in six times tied and five lead changes in six minutes. The Herd pulled away with two baskets to take a 60-58 advantage at the break. Marques Bolden and Elijah Hughes guided the Herd with 12 points each in the first half.
The Magic outscored the Herd 14-4 to go up 72-64 lead at the beginning of the third quarter. Marques Bolden made a layup before Osceola pushed ahead by double-digits. Bolden followed with two more baskets before a two-minute scoring freeze by both teams. The Herd resumed scoring with two consecutive three-point shots to come within eight points. The Magic pushed ahead with a 6-3 run to take a 92-79 lead at the end of the third quarter.
Stevie Thompson Jr. and Wenyen Gabriel started the Herd off in the fourth quarter with back-to-back shots from beyond the arc. The Magic knocked down one basket before Stevie Thompson Jr. and Wenyen Gabriel added another basket each to make it a four-point game. The team traded baskets, but the Magic doubled their lead to eight. Wisconsin responded with a crucial 9-2 run to come within one. Osceola scored one layup before the Herd connected on seven unanswered points to go up by four with one minute remaining. The Magic knocked down a three-pointer while Wenyen Gabriel followed with two free throws. Osceola hit a second three-pointer over a defender with 11 seconds left to tie the game 110-110. Wenyen Gabriel secured a put-back basket leaving two seconds on the clock. The Herd shut down Osceola's last-second shot to seal the win 112-110.
The Herd will return home to take on the Westchester Knicks on Thursday, Feb. 1 with tip-off set for 6:00 p.m. CST.
