Austin Spurs News Release

AUSTIN - The Austin Spurs will celebrate the start of Black History Month on Wednesday, Jan. 31 when they host the Texas Legends in their annual Black History Game with tipoff set for 7 p.m. at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park.

Throughout February, the NBA, the NBA G League, and the WNBA celebrate black history and culture, support the national dialogue on race and equality, and bring teams, players, and fans together to take collective action in their communities. This year's theme is Built By Black History, Elevated by Black Voices.

The Spurs welcome fans to join in a networking opportunity in the party box area of the arena starting at 5 p.m. for a pregame chance to meet new community members. Celebrate Black History Month by wearing your historically black college or university (HBCU) or Divine Nine paraphernalia during the game.

Local performing artist, Andre Taylor will sing the Black National Anthem, Lift Every Voice and Sing as a pregame performance. At halftime, local Divine Nine chapters will have a chance to stroll on the court while the PA announcer shares the history behind each chapter and their contribution to the Black American culture.

The Silver and Black have invited GeNell Prom Closet, a local black nonprofit that provides free prom attire to youth of incarcerated, terminally ill, and unhoused parents and assists foster kids to decrease the financial burden of prom. Fans are encouraged to bring new or gently used dresses, dress shirts, suits, jumpsuits, or shoes to support the expense of this very important event in every high schooler's experience.

To purchase tickets or find more information regarding the Black History Game, call the Austin Spurs office at (512) 236-8333 or go to austinspurs.com.
