Santa Cruz Warriors News Release
BOISE, Idaho - The Santa Cruz Warriors defeated the Idaho Stampede 98-89, improving to 18-11 on the season. The Warriors have won 8 games in a row against the Stampede, with four of those victories earned during the current season.
Dominique Sutton paced the Warriors with 19 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals on a 9 of 10 shooting effort. Darington Hobson notched a double-double, tallying 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Anthony Vereen recorded a season-high of 17 points and 6 rebounds. Mychel Thompson added 13 points on a 5 of 7 shooting effort.
Idaho received a strong performance from Jermaine Taylor, who paced the Stampede with 20 points. Jack Cooley added 15 points for Idaho, while Nick Wiggins, Joel Wright, and Tre Bussey added 10 apiece in the loss.
The Warriors would lead by as many as 22 points, and halted the Stampede's comeback attempt in the fourth quarter as they came within 9 points. Though five different players from Idaho scored in double-figures, the effort was not enough to back a win.
The Warriors led in field goal percentage (57%-42%), rebounds (46-41), assists (21-12), and steals (10-9). The Stampede committed fewer turnovers (16-20), and held the slight edge in blocked shots (2-1).
The Warriors will finish their road trip tomorrow against the Los Angeles D-Fenders tipping off at 5:00 p.m. PST. Fans can listen to the broadcast on the Santa Cruz Warriors flagship station, KION 1460AM/101.1FM, or catch the game on the NBA D-League's YouTube channel, via www.santacruzbasketball.com.
