Sioux Falls Skyforce News Release
Sioux Falls, SD - The Canton Charge defeat the Sioux Falls Skyforce 101-91, capturing their second win in as many nights. The Charge have now won all three meetings between the two teams this season.
A Scotty Hopson jump shot less than a minute into the game gave the Skyforce (17-13) a 2-0 lead, which would end up being their only lead of the game. Arinze Onuaku's 11 points and four rebounds in the first quarter helped the Charge (18-14) take a 24-18 lead into the second quarter. The Charge lead would grow to ten points when an Onuaku lay-up mid-way through the second quarter gave Canton a 38-28 lead. A late second half flurry from the Skyforce cut the Charge lead to four going into halftime.
The second half started with a 16-8 Canton run which saw them take a 68-56 lead with 5:13 remaining in the third quarter. The Skyforce would respond with a 14-5 run to end the third quarter and trailed 73-70 heading into the final quarter. A lay-up from Maurice Kemp with 8:14 left in the fourth quarter gave the Charge an 86-76 lead. A three-point shot from Michael Williams brought the Skyforce within five mid-way through the quarter but a quick 4-0 run from the Charge made the score 90-81 and the Skyforce would not threaten that lead the rest of the way. The Charge completed the weekend sweet of Sioux Falls with a 101-91 victory which extends their winning streak to four games.
After a quiet night last night, Arinze Onuaku led the Charge with 23 points and 13 rebounds. Onuaku shot 11-17 from the field. Brandon Paul provided Canton with 20 points off the bench and Cleveland Cavaliers' assignee Joe Harris finished the night with 11 points and six rebounds. For the second night in a row the Charge dominated the boards, outrebounding the Skyforce 45-27.
The Skyforce were led by Scotty Hopson's 22 points, 18 of which came in the first half. Michael Williams came off the bench to score a career high 16 points. Larry Drew II chipped in with 11 points and a game high five assists. On the night, Sioux Falls shot on 22% (4-18) from three-point range.
The Skyforce will be back in action this Tuesday, February 10, when the travel to face Central Division rival the Iowa Energy (16-13). Canton will now return home after a three game road trip and host the Reno Bighorns (12-15) on February 12.
