February 7, 2015 - NBA G League (G League)
Westchester Knicks News Release

PORTLAND, February 7, 2015 - The Westchester Knicks (9-21), the official NBA Development League of the New York Knickerbockers, were unable to come back from a 27 point deficit falling 121-108 to the Atlantic Division leading Maine Red Claws (19-10).

Taking over two minutes to put the first numbers on the board, the Westchester Knicks struggled to find their shots hitting just 6-of-19 attempts in the first quarter. In contrast, the Maine Red Claws ran up the score up to 21 points over the Knicks in the first, outscoring Westchester 37-19. Red Claws forward Chris Babb hit double digit scoring with 12 points; Thanasis Antetokounmpo and Darnell Jackson combined for 17 of the Knicks' 19 points in the same quarter.

The second twelve minutes fared better for Westchester, who won the quarter but still trailed 65-48 at the half. The Red Claws gave up just four points to turnovers in the first half to the Knicks' fourteen, Maine also leading in rebounds and assists.

Knicks guard Walker Russell Jr. joined Antetokounmpo and Jackson in double digits in the third, but Chris Babb and Omari Johnson of Maine had already surpassed that statistic, both already with 20-plus points. Westchester kept it interesting coming down the stretch, coming within nine points of the Red Claws in the final minutes, but the Knicks were unable to come up with the needed shots, falling to Maine 121-108.

Despite the loss, it was a record-breaking night for Thanasis Antetokounmpo who secured a new franchise high score with 30 points. He also contributed six rebounds, three steals, three assists, and a blocked shot. Darnell Jackson posted a double-double of 22 points and 12 rebounds; Walker Russell Jr. also tallied a double-double with 22 points and 11 assists. Ben Strong was the only other Knick to reach double digits, providing 12 points, four rebounds, and a blocked shot.

Maine tied both their three point attempts and made threes records with 22 shots from beyond the arc, also connecting on 15-of-16 free throws. Off the bench, Omari Johnson had a monster night with a team high 30 points and 15 rebounds. Chris Babb provided 20 points, with four rebounds, three assists, and three steals while Christian Watford had 16 points and four assists.

Coming up on the All-Star break, the Westchester Knicks are gameless for over a week before traveling to face the Delaware 87ers, the NBA D-League affiliate of the Philadelphia 76ers, on Tuesday, Feb. 17, at 7:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on MSG Network.
