G League Grand Rapids Drive

Huge Third Quarter Sparks Spurs' Comeback against Drive

February 7, 2015 - NBA G League (G League)
Grand Rapids Drive News Release

Austin, TX - The Austin Spurs (21-9) defeated the Grand Rapids Drive (15-14) for the second game in a row on Saturday night with a 98-93 win at home.

For the second consecutive game, the Drive jumped out to an early lead, and headed to halftime with a 15-point lead.

But the Spurs absolutely suffocated the Drive defensively in the third quarter, holding the usually-efficient offense to just 10 points and pouring in 28 of their own, giving Austin a small lead going into the final quarter.

Grand Rapids was never out of the contest, and tied the game at 91 with just under two minutes to go, but Austin immediately responded with a three-point play by Bryce Cotton, ensuring that tie was the last of the game.

NBA assignee Kyle Anderson was a constant presence for the Spurs, racking up 21 points, 12 rebounds and five assists. Cotton led the team with 27 points and Orlando Johnson had 16.

Brandon Fields led Grand Rapids with 24 points and seven assists, and Adonis Thomas provided 16 points.

Willie Reed had another monster game on the boards for the Drive with 17 rebounds and 13 points, but struggled from the free throw line, going a damaging three-for-ten.

Statistically, the teams played very even games. The Drive had the rebounding advantage, grabbing 51 to Austin's 38, but they were doomed by only shooting 54 percent from the charity stripe.

These two teams will finish up their three-game series when they head back to Grand Rapids on February 9, the final time they will meet in the regular season this year.
