Sanchez Homers in Triple-A Debut
July 18, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
Louisville, Ky. - Prized catching prospect Gary Sanchez bashed a three-run homer in his first Triple-A plate appearance, but his Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (New York Yankees) fell to the Louisville Bats (Cincinnati Reds) on Saturday night, 6-3. The RailRiders' (50-45) best winning streak in over a month halted at three in a row. The Bats (46-49) posted their first win since the All-Star break.
Sanchez crushed his 13th home run overall including his time at Double-A Trenton to provide the only SWB runs on the night. After allowing the round-tripper, Louisville starter David Holmberg (6-6) settled en route to seven innings of work, a quality start and his second win in as many starts against the RailRiders.
Louisville deadlocked the game in the second inning against starter Bryan Mitchell. Sent down from the bigs earlier in the day, Mitchell allowed a home run to Ryan LaMarre to start the second while Hernan Iribarren and Irving Falu delivered run-scoring contact later in the frame to tie it up.
Mitchell left a draw after 2.1 innings. He allowed three runs and four hits while walking two and tossing a wild pitch.
Danny Burawa (1-3), who was the originally announced Saturday starter, allowed a pair of doubles in the third with LaMarre's effort plating Jermaine Curtis for the go-ahead run. LaMarre doubled home another run in the fifth and scored on a wild pitch that same frame to round out the scoring.
Burawa was charged with three runs on five hits, one walk and three wild pitches against two strikeouts over 2.2 innings.
The four-game series concludes at 6:05 p.m. on Sunday with usual reliever Diego Moreno (3-0, 2.56) facing fellow right-hander Keyvius Sampson (1-3, 5.02). The RailRiders will give away a special copy of Yankees Magazine to the first 2,500 fans in attendance on Friday, July 24, when the team hosts the Toledo Mud Hens (Detroit Tigers).
