Indians' Offense Outpaces Mud Hens' in Rout

July 18, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Toledo Mud Hens News Release

Saturday night at the Hen House the Mud Hens lost their fifth straight game, and their third straight since the All Star break. In his first start since the Fourth of July, Buck Farmer was roughed up by the Indianapolis Indians for six runs in less than an inning pitched. The Indians' offense continued to pour it on in route to a 12-1 victory.

The Indians started off the game with four straight singles off of Farmer to take a 1-0 lead. Farmer then hit the fifth batter of the game, Tony Sanchez, with a pitch to drive in the second run of the game for Indianapolis. It wasn't until the sixth hitter in Steve Lombardozzi that Farmer was able to record his first out of the game. However, that first out would be his only out, as the Indians would touch him for six runs in the first inning.

In the bottom of the first with two outs, the Hens got on the board thanks to a majestic solo home run from Steven Moya. The Indians would respond in the top of the second though, getting the run back off of Drew VerHagen on an RBI single courtesy of Sanchez. In the third, Indianapolis wasn't done flexing their muscles. Thanks to RBIs from Keon Broxton and Brent Morel, the Indians put up three more runs to take a 10-1 lead.

After VerHagen exited in the third inning, Rafael Dolis came on and threw three innings of no run baseball. In the seventh inning, Angel Nesbitt came on to throw two scoreless innings, allowing only one hit while striking out a batter. Guido Knudson came on in the ninth, and gave up two runs, including the first two extra base hits of the game for Indianapolis. For the night, the Indians posted 15 hits, with 13 of them going for singles.

Toledo finishes up the home stand tomorrow at 6 p.m. against the Indianapolis Indians. The Mud Hens look to avoid the four game sweep.
