Bats Strike Back with 6-3 Win

LOUISVILLE, Ky.- The Louisville Bats (46-49) beat the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (50-45) on Star Wars night at Louisville Slugger field, 6-3.

The RailRiders grabbed an early lead in the first with a three-run homer from catcher Gary Sanchez to score Jose Pirela and Greg Bird for a 3-0 advantage over the Bats.

A solo home run from center-fielder Ryan LaMarre put the Bats on the board in the second, his fifth homer of the season. A ground out from second baseman Hernan Iribarren and an RBI single by designated hitter Irving Falu tied up the game, 3-3.

Third baseman Jermaine Curtis grabbed the lead back for Louisville in the third after a wild pitch issued by the RailRiders pitcher Danny Burawa to put ahead the Bats 4-3.

LaMarre set the score at 5-3 after a double to right field scoring Chris Berset. The second wild pitch from the RailRiders sent LaMarre home extending the Bats lead to 6-3.

Louisville left-hander David Holmberg (W, 6-6, 4.57) exited the game after pitching seven innings. Holmberg gave up eight hits, three earned runs, one walk, three strike outs and one home run. Jose De La Torre was credited for the save, his second of the season.

Starting for the RailRiders was right-hander Bryan Mitchell (4-5, 3.09). He pitched two innings and allowed four hits, three earned runs, two walks and one home run. Danny Burawa (L, 1-3, 2.55) took the loss for the RailRiders.

Louisville will take on Scranton/Wilkes-Barre again tomorrow night for the series finale at 6:05 p.m. Righty Kevius Sampson (1-3, 5.02) will take the mound for Louisville and starting for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre will be right-hander Diego Moreno (3-0, 2.56).
