Altherr's Blast Lifts Pigs to 4-2 Win
July 18, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Aaron Altherr's two-run blast in the top of the eighth lifted the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (42-52) to a 4-2 win over the Rochester Red Wings (50-44) on Saturday night at Frontier Field.
The home run was Altherr's (1-4, HR, 2 RBI, R) fourth of the year for the Pigs and it came off of RHP Alex Meyer (1.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 K) who was tagged with the loss and falls to 3-5 on the year.
RHP Seth Rosin (1.0 IP, H, K) got the win for Lehigh Valley and improves his record to 4-1 this season. LHP Adam Loewen (1.0 IP, K) fired a perfect ninth to notch his seventh save of the year.
Jordan Danks (1-4, HR, RBI, R) gave the IronPigs a 1-0 lead with a solo shot off of Wings starter Jose Berrios in the top of the second. It was Danks' third home run of the season.
In the top of the third, Chase d'Arnaud got aboard with a one-out triple and scored on Tyler Henson's sac fly to open up a 2-0 lead for the Pigs.
Berrios (n/d) allowed the two runs on three hits while walking one and fanning nine over 7.0 IP.
Danny Ortiz's two-run shot in the home half of the fourth tied things at two apiece for the Wings. It was the 10th home run of the season for Ortiz.
Rochester had runners at the corners with two away in the fifth, but Pigs starter Sean O'Sullivan was able to get Chris Herrmann to bounce to second and end the inning.
The Red Wings threatened once again in the sixth as back-to-back singles to start the inning put two men on at first and second with nobody out, but O'Sullivan retired the next three hitters to work his way out of the jam.
O'Sullivan (n/d) gave up two runs on six hits to go along with two walks and four strikeouts over six innings of work.
In the home half of the eighth, Pigs RHP Dustin McGowan (1.0 IP, 3 BB, K) walked the bases loaded with two outs but was able to fan Doug Bernier and keep the IronPigs lead at 4-2.
The series wraps up on Sunday at 1:35 p.m. as IronPigs RHP Severino Gonzalez (1-4, 4.38) will be on the bump against Red Wings RHP Greg Peavey (0-4, 5.06).
