Texas Stars News Release

CEDAR PARK, Texas - The Texas Stars knotted the score with 3:15 remaining in regulation but Stefan Noesen's game-winner came less than a minute later to lift the San Diego Gulls to a 3-2 win on Friday night in front of 4,220 in attendance at Cedar Park Center.

Matej Stransky scored the tying goal for Texas late in the third off Matt Mangene's centering pass from the corner. Philippe Desrosiers suffered the loss in net, stopping 23 of 26 shots, and it was the first loss for Texas against San Diego in four meetings this season.

The Stars (21-16-1-1) and Gulls (19-16-1-1) face off again Saturday at 7 p.m. CST at Cedar Park Center.

Noesen's game-winner came on a backhand effort at the right side of the goal crease with 2:33 remaining in regulation to negate Stransky's ninth of the season moments before. Matt Hackett finished with 19 saves in the game as the Gulls defense limited the Stars chances the rest of the way.

Texas opened up the scoring with a power play goal by Curtis McKenzie. The Stars' forward forced the puck in front and stuffed it past Hackett for his sixth of the season at 5:02 of the first. Texas would carry the 1-0 lead into the break.

San Diego responded with a pair of second period goals to take their first lead of the night. The offense began when Antoine Laganiere tipped a centering feed from Mike Sgarbossa at 6:57 past Desrosiers to tie the score. Harry Zolnierczyk then deflected a point shot at 11:41 on the power play for his fourth of season as he returned to action after missing 25 games.

Texas remained hot on the power play going 1-for-3 and scoring their 14th man-advantage goal over the past 13 games. The Gulls went 1-for-2.

The Texas Stars are the primary development affiliate of the NHL's Dallas Stars and currently in their seventh season at Cedar Park Center. Full season, 24-game and 12-game ticket packages for the 2015-16 campaign are on sale now. For more information, call (512) GO-STARS (467-8277) or visit TexasStars.com.
