Sampson Finds Kryptonite in Loss to B-Mets

Curve, Pa. - Adrian Sampson had his toughest outing of the season in the Altoona Curve's 8-2 loss against the Binghamton Mets on Friday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field. The right hander surrendered a season-high seven runs and matched a career-high when Binghamton registered 11 hits against the righty.

Binghamton started the scoring in the game and took a 4-0 lead over the Altoona in the early stages of the game. The B-Mets got off to a quick start offensively by tallying a run in the first inning. After Sampson got out of the second and third innings unscathed, he allowed a two-out rally in the fourth that was capped by a three-run triple from Kyle Johnson.

Altoona got their first run on the board in the fifth to cut Binghamton's lead to 4-1. Andy Vasquez pulled his first triple of the season down the right field line and scored when Jarek Cunningham grounded out to short.

With the Curve down in the seventh, Binghamton tacked on four insurance runs and took an 8-1 lead. The inning included a pair of doubles off Sampson and after the right hander was pulled, Dustin Lawley hit his tenth home run of the season.

The second and final run by the Curve came across in the seventh inning. After Matt Curry hit a double, Willy Garcia followed with a two-bagger of his own that plated Curry.

Sampson (5-5) lasted 6.1 innings and struck out six and walked one in the loss while Binghamton starter Tyler Pill (6-5) picked up the win after he tossed 7.2 innings.

Altoona (29-50) will continue their four-game series with Binghamton (46-33) on Saturday night in Curve, Pa. The first 1,000 fans to the ballpark when the gates open at 5 p.m. will get the Al-In-The-Wall Giveaway presented by Super 8 Altoona. Saturday's game is also a Free Ritchey's Dairy Curve Kids' Club Game and after the game all kids can run the bases.

Starting tomorrow's game on the mound for Altoona will be LHP Zack Dodson (2-3, 4.09) and he will be opposed by Binghamton southpaw Steven Matz (0-0, 7.94). First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. while pregame on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM, and the Curve Radio Network is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
