Harrisburg Senators News Release

An outstanding AA debut by John Simms coupled with more help from a rehabbing Bryce Harper led the Harrisburg Senators, who held on late, to a 4-3 victory on Friday night at Akron.

In Harper's second game with Harrisburg, the outfielder went 1-for-2 with two walks, two RBI and two stolen bases. Harper's savvy baserunning helped the Senators score a run in the first inning as Harrisburg put on a double steal with Harper at first and Michael Taylor at second. Taylor took off for third and never stopped running as the throw went to second where Harper got himself in a rundown, allowing Taylor to score. Ricky Hague launched his fourth home run, a solo shot, with one out in the third inning to make it 2-0, Senators. Cutter Dykstra tripled later in the inning and was followed with an RBI single by Harper. Harrisburg would remain quiet until the eighth when Michael Taylor led off the inning with a walk. Taylor then stole second and third base to set up Harper, who hit a ground ball to second. Akron tried to get Taylor at the plate, but the throw was wide and the Senators advanced their lead to 4-1 on Harper's fielder's choice.

Meanwhile, Simms needed only 85 pitches to twirl seven fantastic innings. The righty allowed a triple and an RBI double in the third inning, but would allow only a two-out single in the seventh for the remainder of his outing. Bryan Harper came on in the eighth to pitched a scoreless inning with his younger brother in center field. Tyler Herron allowed a solo home run and two walks to start the ninth, leading to Robert Benincasa coming on in relief. Benincasa allowed Akron's third run to cross on an RBI double, but induced a shallow fly out and ground out to pick up his second save.

Tomorrow night, Harrisburg and Akron get started at 7:05 p.m. once again. Colin Bates will make his first start of the season against Akron's Duke von Schamann. The game can be heard beginning with the pregame show at 6:50 p.m. on 1460 AM or via senatorsbaseball.com, 1460theticket.com or the iHeart Radio app.
