NEWS AND NOTES

NICE START : The Sea Dogs opened up their eight-game roadtrip with a 9-4 win, and continue their four-game set with the Reading Fightin Phils on Friday night at First Energy Stadium...Portland owns the best winning percentage in minor league baseball at .654, and are attempting to go 25 games over .500 for the first time since they were 83-58 to end the 1996 season...Reading has lost nine straight games and just 4-18 this month...New Britain holds the best mark this month at 17-5.

COYLE CONNECTS : 2B Sean Coyle cleared the bases with a double in the seventh inning, rallying the Sea Dogs past the Fightins, 9-4 on Thursday night...Portland was trailing 4-3 after five innings on a pair of two-run homers from Aaron Altherr and Peter Lavin off Henry Owens (10-3)...Owens earned his sixth straight win, working six innings on five hits, four runs and six strikeouts...RHP Noe Ramirez converted his eighth save, working the final three innings on one hit and two strikeouts...Portland scored six times off Reading's bullpen, giving Colton Murray his second loss of the year.
