Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs captured another series from St. Paul on Wednesday, beating the Saints 4-2 at Haymarket Park. The Saltdogs took three games out of four in the series, and moved to within half a game of first place in the American Association North.

Lincoln took the lead for good in the seventh, just minutes after the Saints had tied the game at one. Albenis Machado, leading off an inning for the fourth time in the contest, hit a 2-2 pitch from St. Paul starter Mark Romanczuk (3-2) over the left-field wall for his first home run of the season. Both Romanczuk and Lincoln starter Ryan Trytten pitched into the seventh, allowing one run apiece.

The Saltdogs took the first lead of the night in the second inning, on an RBI single by Curt Miaso. Former Saltdog Ryan Priddy tied it for St. Paul in the top of the seventh with a two-out RBI single, chasing Trytten from the game. Adam Daniels (1-1) got the final out of the frame for Lincoln, and earned the win after Machado went deep. Miaso added a pair of insurance runs with a two-run single in the eighth, and those runs would prove to be important. Kevin Sullivan led off the ninth with a solo shot, cutting the Lincoln lead to 4-2, but Matt Hammons settled down after that to earn his third save in as many nights.

Miaso finished the game 2-for-3 with three RBI, the second straight night he's driven in three runs. Chris Schutt pitched a scoreless eighth inning for Lincoln, his sixth scoreless outing in a row since joining the Saltdogs.

The Saltdogs host Sioux Falls in a doubleheader Thursday night, with game one scheduled to begin at 6:05. Jonathan Figueroa will get the start in game one for Lincoln, with Jim Paduch scheduled to start game two. Both games are set for seven innings apiece.
