
Salotti's Two Homers Power Tornadoes Past Boulders

The first three Tornadoes batters of the game scored on a Chris Colabello homerun, and Nick Salotti added two dingers of his own as Worcester won 11-4 at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field on Thursday night. Kevin Cooper picked up his second win of the season in six innings of work.
Worcester scored the first seven runs of the game, all on the aforementioned homers. Salotti his his first in the first inning, then extended the lead to a touchdown with a three-run shot in the third. He finished the game 2-for-5 with the two homers, three runs scored, and four RBI. In the top of the fourth inning, the Rockland Boulders scored four runs, including their first three on a homer by Tommy Giles.
The Tornadoes added another couple of runs in the fifth inning, as Tony Patane hit an RBI double to score Salotti, then came around himself on Alex Nunez's RBI single. Nunez extended his hitting streak to 16 games, while Mark Minicozzi lengthened his to 12 contests. (For the second game in a row, Minicozzi got his only hit in his final plate appearance.)
In the bottom of the eighth, Worcester notched another pair. Both Minicozzi and Alex Trezza scored when Salotti reached. Rockland centerfielder Sean Smith dropped a fly ball with two down in the frame, plating both runners and placing Salotti on second base.
Mike Gedman pitched two scoreless innings, striking out two and allowing three hits as the first relieve out of the pen for Worcester. Sean Gregory made his return to the club by pitching the ninth, K'ing two batters, walking one and giving up one hit.
Boulders starter John Muller got the loss, throwing 4.2 innings and giving up nine runs (all earned) on 11 hits, three of them four-base hits. He struck out three Tornadoes and walked four.
Game four of the series will end the home stand for Worcester. After Friday's 7:05pm first pitch, the Tornadoes will have three games in Quebec before an off-day on Tuesday, then a four-game set at Rockland's brand new Provident Bank Park.
