Pittsfield Colonials News Release

NEWARK, NJ - The Pittsfield were unable to overcome seven Newark Bears runs in the first two innings as the Colonials say their three game winning streak snapped, falling to Newark 9-3.

Things got off to a good start for the Colonials as the first three batters reached on a double and two singles, the last of which, by Danny Bomback, scored Jerod Edmondson to put Pittsfield up 1-0.

Colonials wildness helped the Bears to a crooked run in the bottom of the innings, however, as Newark put up four runs with the help of three walks and a bases loaded double by Pat Biserta. After Pittsfield got a run back in the top of the second on a single by Edmondson to score Peter Fatse, the Bears put up three more in the bottom of the second to go up 7-2.

Newark would score a run in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI groundout to go up 8-2. Pittsfield would come back with a run in the top of the sixth as Johnny Welch scored on a throwing error to pull the game to 8-3. The Bears countered in the bottom of the sixth with a homerun from Juan Martinez to push the lead back to six.

Chris Vasami (3-2) went 5.1 innings to earn the win. Eric Katzman (0-1) took the loss for the Colonials.

The final game of the series comes up on Friday with Miguel Flores (0-4, 3.15) on the mound for Pittsfield against Aaron Kalb (1-2, 5.40) for Newark. Pregame on pittsfieldcolonials.com will begin at 6:15 p.m. outside of a scheduled 6:35 p.m. first pitch. The Colonials return home on Saturday, July 2 for New England Sports Night at Wahconah Park. Fans who wear any game from their favorite New England sports team will receive $2 off admission. For tickets, visit pittsfieldcolonials.com or call (413)-236-2961.
