Huntsville Havoc News Release
KNOXVILLE, TENN - The Huntsville Havoc started a weekend series Friday night against Knoxville in the Gateway to the Smokies by smoking the Ice Bears 4-1.
Forward Ryan Salkeld scored a pair of goals and Rob Darrar recorded two assists to lead the Havoc to their third win in a row. Huntsville and Knoxville move the series to the Von Braun Center in the Rocket City on Saturday, January 19.
"The team played another really solid road game," said Havoc Head Coach Glenn Detulleo. "We got outstanding goaltending and some timely goals. The challenge it to do it again tomorrow."
Huntsville lit the lamp for the first time when John Schiavo was coasting toward the net in the left faceoff circle and sniped the puck through traffic and in to the net 5:31 into the opening period.
The Havoc doubled the lead when Darrar sent a pass to team captain Christian Powers skating right in front of the crease who slipped the puck past Ice Bears keeper Michael Santaguida as the two collided into the net. Huntsville took a 2-nil lead in to the first break.
The visitors continued to roll in the middle frame when Salkeld scored 14 minutes into the second.
The Ice Bears finally got one past Havoc keeper Max Milosek 4:34 into the last period, but the Havoc defense buckled down and kept Knoxville scoreless the rest of the way. Salkeld scored unassisted on an empty net with two minutes left as the Havoc skated out the clock and a 4-1 win.
Milosek stopped 31 of the 32 shots he faced.
Next Game
The Havoc return to the friendly confines of Pharmacy First Ice on Saturday, January 19, to face the Ice Bears on Adult Jersey Night. The first 2,000 fans receive a free replica jersey. Puck drop is 7 p.m.
