Salem Red Sox News Release
Lynchburg, VA-The Salem Avalanche, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Houston Astros, used a season high-tying 16 hits to thump the Lynchburg Hillcats Friday night at City Stadium 11-1. Josh Flores went 4-for-4 in the game including a two-run homer. The contest was delayed by an hour and 32 minutes due to rain in the bottom of the third.
The Avs cracked the scoreboard first in the second inning when Justin Tellam brought Billy Hart home with an RBI single. In the third, Salem loaded the bases against Lynchburg starter Henry Cabrera with one out for Mitch Einertson. The 21-year-old blasted his 11th hit with the bases full this season to score all three of his teammates. Einertson now owns 21 RBI with the bases loaded.
Both Cabrera and Salem starter Brian Bogusevic then departed because of the weather delay. Bogusevic tossed two scoreless innings.
The Avs batted in the fifth with a 4-0 lead against reliever Brian Holliday. With one out, Einertson doubled and Billy Hart reached on an error by shortstop Dan Schwartzbauer. Cesar Quintero then plugged a three-run triple to left to push the score to 6-0. Tellam followed with a ground ball to short which Schwartzbauer threw home. His peg was too late for Quintero and the Avs led 7-0. Two batters later, Flores slammed his fifth homer of the season and the advantage stood at 9-0.
Salem's final runs crossed in the eighth as Ryan Reed, Eric King and Einertson all doubled.
Einertson tied a season-best with four RBI-he's reached that number four times this year. On the mound, Chris Blazek earned the fifth save of his three-year pro career with three scoreless innings in relief.
Salem aims for its fifth straight win over Lynchburg in '07 Saturday at 6:05. It's righty Raymar Diaz against Lynchburg right-hander Serguey Linares.
