Kinston Rips A Season High 23 Hits

Kinston ripped a season high 23 hits as they pounded the Myrtle Beach Pelicans 21-6 Friday night at Grainger Stadium. Kinston hit a season high six home runs and batted around in four separate innings. Eight of the nine Kinston hitters had two or more hits, five K-Tribers had three hit games. Kinston scored six runs in the first inning, four in the second, four in the third and a season high seven runs in the bottom of the seventh. Chris Gimenez had a season high seven RBI on the night, going 2-for-5 with a grand-slam and a three-run home run. Gimenez is now second in the Carolina League with 14 homers on the season. Chris De La Cruz went 4-for-4 with two runs scored. Stephen Head went 3-for-6 with four runs and two RBI. Max Ramirez was 3-for-3 with an RBI. Wes Hodges went 3-for-4 with four runs and two RBI. The 21 runs and 23 hits were the most a team has put up in the Carolina League this season. The run and hit totals were the most for a Kinston team since the 2005 K-Tribe handed Frederick a 25-4 loss, banging out 27 hits.

Kinston's Jim Deters (5-2) picked up the win from the bullpen. Dan Cevette made a spot start for the K-Tribe, going two and two-thirds innings, giving up three hits and three earned runs. Kyle Collins finished the game for the K-Tribe. Jake Stevens (4-4) picked up the loss for Myrtle Beach; giving up four hits, four walks and six earned runs. Stevens did not make it out of the first inning.

The K-Tribe is still four games ahead of second place Salem in the Carolina League Southern Division. There are nine games left for both Kinston in Salem in the first half of the season.

Kinston returns to action at Grainger Stadium on Saturday night at 7pm. Sung-Wei Tseng takes the mound for the K-Tribe.
