THE HILLCATS...continue a critical four-game series against their Central Virginia rival, the Salem Avalanche, at City Stadium...Watched a four-run eighth inning lead dissapear in a 5-4 loss to Salem in the opener on Thursday night...Have dropped three straight games and five of their last six, overall...Despite defeat, remain a season-high two-games ahead of the Wilmington Blue Rocks for first place in the Northern Division...

THE AVALANCHE...Snapped a four-game losing streak with the victory last night...Currently rank first in the Carolina League in team batting average (.269) and 3rd in ERA (3.65)...Moved to within 4.0-games of the front-running Indians in the Southern Division...

2007 vs. SALEM: The Avalanche lead the season series, three games to one...Salem captured the 2006 season series, 12 games to 8...Overall, the Avalanche have held an edge in the lifetime series 124-112 (.525) although the Hillcats have posted an impressive 65-54 (.546) mark in 119 all-time match-ups at City Stadium...These two teams have never met in the post-season despite both being in the CL for each of the last four decades...

PLAYOFF RACE: All four Northern Division teams are within 4.0-games of first place...Despite posting a sub-.500 record (28-29), the Cats are 2.0-games clear of Wilmington for first place in the division...The last team to advance to the CL post-season without a winning record was the 1985 W-S Warthogs (35-35)... No team in Carolina League history has posted a losing record in a half and advanced to the post-season...
