WOODBRIDGE, VA - The Potomac Nationals announced today that rehabbing Major League pitcher John Patterson will throw a live batting practice session prior to Sunday's game with Frederick at G. Richard Pfitzner Stadium.

The right-hander was placed on the 15-day disabled list after leaving a May 5 game against the Chicago Cubs in the third inning with pain in his right elbow. Patterson was placed on the disabled list the following day with soreness in his right elbow/biceps and nerve problems in the arm reveled by an MRI.

The batting practice session Sunday marks the second time in as many years that Patterson has done rehab work in Woodbridge - making starts against Winston-Salem and Frederick last season. Against Frederick, the right hander saw his second pitch end up on the wrong side of Pfitzner Stadium's right center field wall, courtesy of Fredrick lead-off hitter Pete Maestrales.

Patterson threw 88 pitches against Frederick, 66 for strikes. Prior to the start against the Keys, Patterson threw 3.1 innings against Winston-Salem and gave up two runs, none earned, on four hits.

Patterson was 1-5 with a 7.47 ERA in seven starts with Washington before landing on the disabled list.

Patterson, billed as the Washington Nationals' ace coming into the 2007 season, has battled injury problems since undergoing reconstructive elbow surgery while with the Diamondbacks in 2000.
