Potomac Nationals News Release

WOODBRIDGE, VA - The Potomac Nationals announced today that Washington Nationals outfielder Alex Escobar will join the team prior to Friday's game against the Frederick Keys at G. Richard Pfitzner Stadium on a rehab assignment.

Escobar went down with an injury to a problem with his right quadriceps during Spring Training. It was the fourth injury that Escobar has suffered since joining the Nationals in 2005.

The former New York Met farmhand missed a chunk of the 2006 season with Washington when he had an MRI revealing a torn labrum in his right shoulder.

Escobar has appeared in 125 games in his Major League career and owns a .258 batting average. The 28-year-old has 14 doubles, four triples, 13 home runs and 52 RBI in 388 at-bats since making his Major League debut in May 2001.

Escobar was eligible for arbitration after the 2006 season, but agreed to a one-year deal with Washington before the arbitration stage was reached.

Escobar is the second Washington player to rehab with the Nationals this year, following Luis Ayala. Ayala threw 2.2 inning for Potomac in three games, allowing one hit in nine at-bats, walking one and striking out one.
