Potomac Nationals News Release

WOODBRIDGE, VA - The Potomac Nationals announced today that second baseman Ofilio Castro has been selected by a panel of field managers, general managers and media members to travel to Stockton, Calif. as a representative of the Carolina League in the June 19 All-Star Game with the California League.

Castro's hot first-half at the top of the Potomac line-up was undoubtedly the catalyst for the selection as the second baseman hit .305, fourth in the Carolina League, and knocked in 16 runs over the season's first half.

The 23-year-old Nicaraguan did a fair share of his work on the road, hitting in 18-straight road games this season from April 5 to May 22 with an average of .370 and six doubles.

As of Thursday, Castro remained on the disabled list with an ankle injury suffered in a 4-1, Memorial Day-loss to Salem. As of Thursday afternoon, Castro's status for the game was uncertain.

Castro was signed as a non-drafted free agent on Nov. 20, 2000 out of the College Exp. of Mexican Man and spent his first two seasons with the DSL Expos before moving to the GCL Expos in 2003. After splitting 2004 between Savannah and Vermont, Castro was in Savannah in both 2005 and 2006 before coming to Potomac this season.

In his six years of Minor League ball, Castro owns a .243 batting average with 68 doubles, 11 triples, 14 homers and 173 RBI.
