Winston-Salem Dash News Release
SALEM, VA (JUNE 3, 2013) - After falling 5-4 in game one of Monday's doubleheader at LewisGale Field, the Winston-Salem Dash lost game two to the Salem Red Sox as well, this time by a score of 6-3.
Trailing 3-1 entering the fifth, the Dash (29-28) put together a two-out rally against Madison Younginer (1-0) to tie the game. Adam Heisler, who was activated from the disabled list between games, got things started with an infield single to extend his on-base streak to 42 games. The next batter was Chris Curley, and the shortstop hit a two-run homer to the opposite field to tie the game at three.
Winston-Salem would give the lead right back in the bottom of the frame. Terance Marin (3-5) was one out away from his second perfect inning of relief when he walked Garin Cecchini. Cecchini would steal second and come around on a double by Keury De La Cruz to put Salem (25-30) in front for good. The Red Sox would add a second tally in the frame when Henry Ramos singled De La Cruz home.
Salem would tack on another insurance run in the sixth when Nick Natoli hit a run-producing double off J.R. Ballinger.
Younginer was injured during the sixth inning, forcing Salem to go to the bullpen for a second time, bringing in Matt Price. Price would get the final five outs of the ballgame to earn his fifth save.
After the Red Sox took game one of the doubleheader, Winston-Salem did not start game two off well. The Dash committed three errors in the bottom of the first, helping the Red Sox tally the contest's first two runs against game two starter Jason Van Skike.
In the third, Salem would tack on another run. After Felix Sanchez bunted for a base hit and swiped his second base of the contest, Cecchini singled him home for his second RBI of the nightcap.
Winston-Salem's only run against Red Sox starter Kyle Kraus came in the fourth. Courtney Hawkins launched a solo shot to put the Dash on the board. It was his eighth of the campaign and first since he was activated from the disabled list on Sunday.
Thanks to first-place Myrtle Beach's 2-1, 10-inning loss at home to Potomac, Winston-Salem is just 1.5 games behind the Pelicans for the Southern Division's top spot. Salem is now 4.5 games behind the Birds because to this doubleheader sweep.
The Dash and Red Sox continue their five-game series Tuesday night at LewisGale Field. Winston-Salem will send right-hander Bryan Blough (2-4, 5.43 ERA) to the mound, while Salem will turn to fellow righty Mike Augliera (4-2, 3.70 ERA). Coverage begins with the Pregame Dash at 6:50, and first pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
The Dash's next homestand begins on Friday when they welcome the Wilmington Blue Rocks to town. The game will be followed by a fireworks show. For tickets, call the Dash at (336) 714-2287 or visit wsdash.com.
