DASH BASH MUDDIES, SWEEP WEEKEND

Winston-Salem posted multiple runs in five different innings Sunday, including a six-run sixth frame, en route to a 15-6 annihilation of the Carolina Mudcats Sunday at BB&T Ballpark. Nine different Dash swingers had at least one hit and one run, while six collected at least one RBI. Starter Chris Beck worked through six innings for his fifth victory. With the win, Winston-Salem improved to 32-6 (.842) at home against Cleveland's CL affiliate since 2010.

BUCKING THE TREND

Grant Buckner was the star of Sunday's rout thanks to seven RBIs, the most by a Winston-Salem swinger in the Dash era (2009-present). Buckner also clubbed a pair of home runs--a two-run dinger in the second and a grand slam in the sixth. It marked the 31st multi-homer effort for a Dash swinger since 2009 and Buckner's first two-homer game in the minors. It was his best game since hitting three homers and driving in a school-record 10 runs against Notre Dame on May 8, 2010, as a junior at West Virginia.

ROOMMATES SHINE

Buckner's roommate and Dash catcher Kevan Smith chipped in with his sixth homer to go along with three RBIs in the blowout. Over his last eight games, Smith is hitting .364 (12-for-33) with three long balls, 14 RBIs and eight runs scored. Smith has also recorded five multi-hit efforts over this span, which began May 23 at Salem. Prior to this run, Smith had not banged out more than one hit in a game since April 25.

SWEEP CITY

Winston-Salem earned its fifth sweep of the campaign Sunday. The Dash have two more sweeps than Myrtle Beach, while no other Carolina League club has posted more than two. Since the start of 2012, the Dash have swept 14 sets, which is easily the CL's top mark. On the flip side, Winston has been on the wrong end of only one sweep over its last 74 series. This brooming came April 5-7, 2013, at Carolina.

ONE MORE TO GO

With 15 games remaining in the first half, Winston-Salem has pulled within one game of Myrtle Beach in the first-half Southern Division standings. The Dash are 11-5 since May 17, while the Pelicans have lost nine of their last 10 games, including a 3-2 decision Sunday in Salem. The Dash will finish the first half with games against Wilmington (7), Salem (5) and Lynchburg (3), while the Birds play Carolina (8), Potomac (4), and Frederick (3) down the stretch.

A DOSE OF COSE

Right-hander Jake Cose makes his High-A debut in the opener of Monday's doubleheader after shining for Low-A Kannapolis during the season's first two months. In 10 starts, Cose posted a 1.72 ERA, which is ninth-best among all qualifying pitchers in Minor League Baseball and the top ERA in the White Sox system. Cose went 4-3 with 63 strikeouts in 57.2 innings while in an Intimidators uniform. Prior to 2013, Cose had a 4.76 ERA in his minor league career.

HAWKINS ACTIVATED FROM DL

Outfielder Courtney Hawkins was activated from the disabled list prior to Sunday's game, and the top prospect in the White Sox system went 1-for-5 with an RBI double and four whiffs in his first action in more than a month. Hawkins hurt his left shoulder while making a diving catch on May 1 at Lynchburg. Prior to the injury, the Corpus Christi, Texas, native hit .177 (14-for-79) with seven homers and 17 RBIs. He led the minors with 45 strikeouts at the time of his injury.
