Zebulon, N.C. - Shawn Morimando was honored with his first career weekly award this week when the Carolina League named him the Pitcher of the Week for May 28 - June 2.

A former 19th round draft pick by the Cleveland Indians in 2011, Morimando shutout the Wilmington Blue Rocks over six innings in his only start of the week. The left-hander's first quality start of the season extended his scoreless innings streak to 13.0 frames. Morimando struck out a career-high eight batters in the outing.

From Virginia Beach, Va., Morimando has won two straight starts, and dropped his earned run average from 4.24 after May 12th down to 3.18. His current ERA ranks eighth best in the Carolina League.

Morimando joins Cody Anderson and Jordan Cooper as Mudcats hurlers who have received the weekly award this year.
