WINSTON-SALEM, NC (JUNE 28, 2010) - Salem struck for runs in each of the first five innings en route to a 12-1 blowout win over the Dash on Monday night at BB&T Ballpark. Ryan Lavarnway and Mitch Dening each had three-RBI nights for the Red Sox, who avenged their 13-6 loss to Winston-Salem the night before.

Salem (2-3, 44-31) got a run in the first inning off Leroy Hunt, who was making his first professional start. Oscar Tejeda hit an RBI triple to bring home Dening and make it 1-0 Red Sox.

Winston-Salem (2-3, 45-30) notched a run of its own in the bottom of the inning against Salem starter Michael Lee. Brandon Short led off with a double and scored on Jon Gilmore's RBI single to tie the game at one.

The Red Sox took the lead for good in the second inning with four more runs off Hunt (0-4). Dening and Lavarnway each had two-run doubles to push Salem ahead 5-1.

After adding a run in the third on another Dening double, the Red Sox scored three more in both the fourth and fifth innings. Jorge Padron hit a two-run double off Drew O'Neil, who was making his Advanced-A debut. O'Neil also allowed a run to score on a wild pitch. Hector Santiago surrendered three runs in the fifth inning as Lavarnway, Tejeda, and Tim Federowicz collected RBI.

Blake Maxwell (4-1) relieved Lee to start the fourth and pitched five no-hit innings for the win. Hunt suffered the loss, allowing five runs on six hits in two innings.

The game marked the return of Winston-Salem's Josh Phegley, who spent the last two and a half months on the disabled list with a medical condition. He batted fifth as the team's designated hitter and went 1 for 4 with a check-swing infield single in his first game back.

Phegley's hit was one of just four for a punchless Dash offense, which had stroked 17 the night before. Winston did not collect a hit after the second inning and went 28 straight batters without a base hit to end the game.

The game was the first Monday home contest in the history of BB&T Ballpark. The Dash plays four more Monday home games this season.

The two teams play the rubber-game of the series on Tuesday night. RHP Nate Jones (5-2, 4.78) gets the nod for the Dash against Salem RHP Caleb Clay (2-5, 3.89). First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the audio broadcast can be heard beginning at 6:45 on www.wsdash.com.
