Lynchburg Hillcats News Release

The Reds called up left-handed reliever Bill Bray to the major leagues yesterday. Bray had been rehabbing with the Hillcats and Triple-A Louisville Bats after Tommy John Surgery.

This year Bray made his debut with the Hillcats June 5. In four appearances in Lynchburg, he gave up no runs, and only one hit in four and two-thirds innings. He struck out nine. After his June 11 outing, he was promoted to Triple-A Louisville where he made six scoreless appearances. He allowed two hits and struck out seven in five and two-thirds innings.

He had been on the disabled list since April 16 last year with a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow. He made three scoreless appearances for Triple-A Louisville in 2009 before the injury. With the Reds in 2008 he went 2-2 with a 2.87 ERA in 63 games out of the bullpen.

Bray was the 13th overall pick in the 2004 draft by the Montreal Expos. A native of Virginia Beach, VA, he played collegiate ball at The College of William & Mary. He made a brief appearance in the Carolina League with the Potomac Cannons in 2005 and went 1-0 with a 2.13 ERA in eight outings.

He was traded to the Reds in 2006 along with SS Royce Clayton, INF Brendan Harris, RHP Gary Majewski and RHP Daryl Thompson in exchange for OF Austin Kearns, SS Felipe Lopez and RHP Ryan Wagner.
