Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release
Sioux City, Iowa - Richard Salazar fired eight innings of one-run baseball to give Sioux City a 6-1 victory over the RailCats. With the victory, Sioux City takes the series and improves to 21-25. The RailCats fell to 27-19 on the season.
With a fastball rarely topping 82 miles per hour, Salazar kept the RailCats off balance all night. In the second inning, he worked around a pair of errors in the field behind him.
The RailCats had hits in each the sixth and seventh innings, however, both innings ended on double play balls to the shortstop stifling any chance for a RailCats rally.
The Explorers jumped on RailCats starter Ari Ronick for a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. With two out and the bases empty, Peter Barrows and Luke Murton both doubled to make it 1-0. Yusuke Inoguchi followed with an RBI single of his own to take a 2-0 lead after 1 inning.
Sioux City continued their early assault on Ari Ronick in the bottom of the third. The Explorers knocked three RBI doubles in the inning scoring four runs on five hits in all. Sioux City held a 6-0 lead with 10 hits after three innings.
The RailCats finally broke through against Richard Salazar in the fifth. With one out, Drew Martinez tripled down the line in left field and scored on a groundout by Zac Mitchell.
Ronick was pulled from the game after allowing a two-out single to Leugim Barroso in the sixth. Ari allowed six runs on a season-high 13 hits, no walks and struck out two.
Every hitter for Sioux City had a hit in the game, led by Peter Barrows who had a pair of RBI doubles; three hits in all.
RailCats pitching allowed a season-high six doubles in the game.
The RailCats continue their eight-game road trip with a four game set in Winnipeg beginning Saturday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. The radio broadcast will begin at 5:50 on 89.1 FM The Lakeshore.
