
Canaries Sign Reliever Chris Allen

SIOUX FALLS - The Sioux Falls Canaries added to their bullpen arsenal on Thursday by signing right-handed reliever Chris Allen.
Allen, 28, has split time this season with the Grand Prairie AirHogs and Winnipeg Goldeyes. He had two scoreless outings with Winnipeg and made five appearances for the Grand Prairie AirHogs, allowing five runs in five appearances. His combined record is 0-0 with a 9.00 ERA, four walks and seven strikeouts.
The native of Williamsport, Penn., has spent all six seasons of his professional career in independent baseball with stints in the Frontier League, Can-Am League and American Association. Last year he pitched for Gary SouthShore and Winnipeg, going 5-5 with a 3.76 ERA and six saves in 43 relief appearances. He struck out 47 batters in 52 2/3 innings. He helped Winnipeg to the 2012 championship with five scoreless outings in the playoffs.
Allen pitched collegiately at Florida Atlantic University.
Allen will be in uniform tonight when the Canaries face the Kansas City T-Bones at 7:05 p.m., seeking a series win. The game will be broadcast on Sioux Falls Sports Radio 1230-AM, 98.1-FM and www.kwsn.com.
