Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release
WINNIPEG - Winnipeg Goldeyes manager Rick Forney announced today that the baseball club has signed veteran left-handed pitcher Chris Salamida to a contract and placed left-handed Mark Hardy on the inactive list, retroactive to July 20.
Salamida, 29, returns to Winnipeg after initially retiring in the offseason. He helped the Goldeyes win the American Association championship last season after going 5-7 with a 3.77 ERA in the regular season and 1-0 with a 4.77 ERA in two starts in the playoffs. In his previous three seasons with Winnipeg, Salamida is 26-20 with a 4.33 ERA. He posted 10 wins in 2010 and 11 victories in 2011.
"Chris is one of the best left-handed starting pitchers in the league," Forney said. "He logs a lot of innings and is very dependable. We are excited to have him back in our rotation."
In the record books, Salamida is second all-time with 62 games started in a Goldeyes uniform, third in strikeouts with 300, fourth in wins with 25 and fifth in innings pitched with 357.2. Salamida needs 14 strikeouts to pass Forney for second on the strikeout list.
Hardy, who has a 6-3 record and 3.65 ERA in 13 starts this season, has been placed on the inactive list due to a shoulder injury. He's eligible to be activated on August 19.
The Goldeyes continue a four-game series against the Trois-Rivieres Aigles tonight at 6 p.m. at Shaw Park and Salamida is scheduled to make his season debut as Winnipeg's starting pitcher.
Tickets for all Goldeyes games can be purchased through Ticketmaster by calling 1-855-GOLDEYE, clicking on Ticketmaster.ca or visiting any Ticketmaster location, including the Shaw Park box office.
