Sioux City Explorers News Release

Fargo, ND-----In a slugfest at Newman Outdoor Field before 5,002, Fargo-Moorhead defeated the Explorers 11-9 to even the series at one game apiece.

The Explorers took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning on a two-run single by Eddie Young and a RBI single by Sam Judah. However, that lead didn't last long as the RedHawks would send 13 batters to the plate in the third inning when they scored nine runs, the most runs the Explorers have given up in one inning this season.

The highlight of that third inning for Fargo-Moorhead was the grand slam home run by Ronnie Bourquin.

The Explorers would cut the lead to 9-6 by scoring two runs in the fourth and one more run in the fifth.

Nic Jackson would hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to make it an 11-6 lead for the RedHawks.

Sioux City made it interesting in the ninth when the Explorers scored three runs with the help of two Fargo-Moorhead errors. With the Explorers trailing 11-9 and two outs in the ninth and Yusuke Inoguchi at first base, Bryan Pounds flied out deep to right field to end the game.

The two-run loss for the Explorers was the 40th game this season in which the X's have been involved in a contest where the game was decided by two runs or less. This was the tenth game this season between Sioux City and Fargo-Moorhead in which eight of the ten games have been decided by two or less runs.

The final game of the season between the Explorers and RedHawks will be played Sunday with game time set for 1:00pm.
