Grand Prairie AirHogs News Release
Grand Prairie- The Grand Prairie AirHogs (35-30) were riding a five-game win streak coming into Saturday night's game against the Wichita Wingnuts at QuikTrip Park, but it all came to an end when the Wingnuts beat the AirHogs 4-3. The AirHogs runs all came in the bottom of the seventh and gave them their only lead of the game. Austin Newell came into the game for Kenny Held in the seventh and doubled in his first at-bat of the game driving in Palmer Karr. Newell would later score when Angel Flores singled and drove him in. Rian Kiniry came up later in the inning and singled driving in Bubba Dotson and almost driving in Flores who was tagged out at the plate on a very close play. This gave the AirHogs a 3-2 lead. Flores went 2-for-3 in the game and Newell went 1-for-2.
Gabriel Garcia was the starting pitcher Saturday and left with a no decision after 4.2 innings of work allowing two runs on three hits. He struck out two Wingnuts. Derrick Miramontes came in for 2.1 innings and allowed only one hit and no runs. He added three strikeouts of his own. Receiving the loss was David Quinowski (3-3) after one inning of work allowing two runs on two hits. Quinowski did strike out one of the batters he faced. Jakob Cunningham closed the game and allowed no hits and no runs.
The AirHogs and Wingnuts will finish up their three-game series Sunday night at QuikTrip Park with first pitch scheduled for 6:05 P.M. The AirHogs find themselves a game back from division leading Laredo and half a game back from Amarillo.
