Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

St. Paul, MN - Willie Cabrera went 3-for-4, including a first inning three-run homer, and Billy Soule held the RailCats bats quiet through six innings as Saint Paul (34-32) defeated the RailCats (39-27) 6-1 on Saturday night.

The win for St. Paul was their first in six games with the RailCats this season.

Cabrera hammered a three-run homerun in the bottom of the first off starter Morgan Coombs. The three-run homer was his tenth of the season and gave Saint Paul a 3-0 lead.

In the third, the Saints added another run on an RBI double by Brandon Tripp. The inning began with a one-out single by Brad Boyer; he moved to third on Willie Cabrera's base hit. That set up Tripp's double into the alley in right-center to make it 4-0.

The Saints knocked out the RailCats starter Morgan Coombs with a sacrifice fly off the bat of Adam Frost in the fourth. Coombs suffered his second loss of the season; he allowed five runs on seven hits, one walk and struck out four.

Coombs was just activated off the disabled list prior to the game as the RailCats placed LHP Ari Ronick on the DL.

The RailCats finally got a runner safely to second for the first time in the sixth inning on Adam Klein's double. Mike Massaro then knocked a single to right to get the RailCats on the board and make it a 5-1 game.

Right-hander Billy Soule controlled the game; allowing just one runner to second base safely during his six innings of work. Soule allowed just one run on five hits and a pair of walks; he struck out two and picked up his first win of the year.

Soule was the beneficiary of some timely defense as he got the RailCats to ground into a double play in each of the first three innings of the game and in the sixth.

The Saints added another in the eighth on an infield single with the bases loaded by Dan Kaczrowski off Estevan Uriegas.

Christian Vitters recorded his second straight multi-hit game with a 2-for-4 performance. Adam Klein and Mike Massaro each had a pair of hits in the game as well.

The RailCats complete their three-game set with St. Paul tomorrow afternoon. RHP Stephen Hiscock (0-1, 3.00 ERA) will start for the RailCats, the Saints will send RHP Anthony Claggett (6-3, 3.95 ERA) to the mound. The radio broadcast will begin at 1:00 p.m. on 89.1 FM The Lakeshore and Railcatsbaseball.com.
