
Saints Prove Resilient in 9-7 Come Back Win

ST. PAUL, MN (August 5, 2008) - The St. Paul Saints spotted the Sioux Falls Canaries a five run lead and proceeded to score eight unanswered as they hung on for a 9-7 victory on Tuesday afternoon at Skinny Water Park in front of 6,980.
The Canaries jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning as they sent nine men to the plate. Kennard Bibbs led it off reaching on a fielding error by shortstop Ryan Priddy. With one out Josh Patton singled him to second. Beau Torbert followed with an RBI single. With two outs Patrick Reilly tripled home two making it 3-0. Paul Smyth tacked on an RBI double and Tim Hutting plated the final run when his grounder went through the legs of third baseman Ben Thomas.
The Saints battled back in the bottom of the inning as they sent nine men to the plate and scored four runs. The first four men reached base as Ron Fenwick led it off with a single to left. Pichi Balet moved him to second with an infield single to short and Fenwick advanced to third on shortstop Tim Hutting's throwing error to second. Brent Krause and Adam Hale came through with back-to-back RBI singles making it 5-2. Kevin Sullivan's RBI ground out made it 5-3 and Hale would later score on a wild pitch.
The Saints took the lead in the fourth as Ryan Priddy led off with a double to center. Fenwick followed with an RBI single tying the game at five. Fenwick went 3-5 with two RBI and a run scored. Three batters later Hale crushed his first homer as a Saints and seventh of the season, a two-run shot over the right field wall giving the Saints a 7-5 lead. Hale finished the game 2-4 with a homer, three RBI and two runs scored.
In the fifth with Heath Keel at first and one out Priddy dropped down a bunt single putting runners at first and second. Fenwick knocked in Keel with a single to center giving the Saints and 8-5 lead.
The teams would trade runs in the sixth and in the ninth the Saints hung on for the victory. Grant Richardson led off with a walk. With one out the Canaries loaded the bases on back-to-back singles from Torbert and Van Iderstine. Reilly cut the deficit to two with an RBI single. Mike Bille, however, struck out Smyth and got Tim Hutting to ground to third to end the game.
The Saints have Wednesday off and return to action on Thursday night against the Fort Worth Cats in the first game of a three game series at 7:05 p.m. at Skinny Water Park. The Saints send RHP Dustin Bolton (4-6, 4.54) to the mound. It is Toolympics presented by Northern Tool + Equipment.
