WILMINGTON, DE - Wilmington starting pitcher Matt Kniginyzky pitched the Blue Rocks past Winston-Salem by a 4-3 margin on Tuesday night at Frawley Stadium. The High Point grad tossed seven solid innings and held the Warthogs to two runs on four hits with five strikeouts. Kniginyzky (8-7) improved to 6-0 in eight starts since the All-Star break.

The Blue Rocks pounced on Warthogs starting pitcher Anthony Carter early with three runs in the first inning. After the first two batters were retired, Brad Correll walked on a 3-2 pitch. Cody Strait followed with a two-run blast to straightaway center field. Next up, Jeff Bianchi went back-to-back with a solo shot to give the Blue Rocks a 3-0 lead.

The Warthogs first hit came on a Freddie Thon solo home run in the second inning. It was his second round-tripper in as many games. The Blue Rocks extended their lead to 4-1 in the fourth inning when Adrian Ortiz dropped a two-out double into right field that scored Anthony Seratelli from second base.

Winston-Salem trimmed the deficit to two when Francisco Hernandez crushed a solo homer off Kniginyzky in the fifth inning. The Warthogs added a run in the eighth off newly inserted reliever Ben Swaggerty. Paulo Orlando led off with his league-best 12th triple. One out later, John Shelby III lined an RBI single to right field to cut the Blue Rocks lead to 4-3.

That would be as close as Winston-Salem would get as Tyler Chambliss worked a perfect ninth inning to collect his league-best 20th save of the season for the Blue Rocks. Carter (4-3) only lasted four innings and allowed four runs on five hits to suffer the loss for the Warthogs.

The Warthogs conclude this three-game series as well as their seven-game road swing on Wednesday night at Frawley Stadium. Winston-Salem will send RHP Jacob Rasner (4-5, 3.96) to the mound, while Wilmington will counter with LHP Everett Teaford (6-5, 3.88). The first pitch of the series finale is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
