
Diablos get better of X's

Adam Blackley threw a complete game as the El Paso Diablos downed the Sioux City Explorers 4-1 in the series finale from Lewis and Clark Park on Tuesday night.
El Paso pieced together a first inning run against the X's. With runners on the corners Roberto Mejia ripped an RBI single into centerfield for the 1-0 lead.
Sioux City tied up the contest in the bottom of the second. Alex Llanos and Juan Camacho had back-to-back singles to lead off the frame. Alex Llanos moved to third on a throwing error by the catcher Matt Kent on a pick off. Llanos scored the tieing run on a wild pitch, making it a 1-1 contest.
Alexander Francisco was knocked out of the game in the top of the sixth inning. The first batter Marcel Longmire lined a pitch up the middle which struck Francisco in the thigh and bounced towards first. Longmire reached on a single and Francisco left the contest with an injury. Matt Kretzschmar entered the game and induced the final three outs.
The Diablos took the lead in the top of the seventh. Willie James led off the inning with a drag bunt single up the first base line. James advanced to second on a bunt and to third on a ground out. Jorge Alvarez drove James home with an infield single bounced up the middle which the Alex Llanos could not corral, for the 2-1 lead!
El Paso put a run of insurance together in the top of the eighth. Matt Kent led off the inning with a double down the left field line. Kent sped to third base on a passed ball on the catcher. Alex Derhak picked up an RBI on a groundball squibbed down the third base line which Juan Camacho could not bare hand for the 3-1 advantage.
The Diablos plated another run in the top of the ninth on sloppy Explorers defense. Bryan Cooksey reached base to lead off the inning on a fielding error on the third baseman Juan Camacho. He would eventually score on a wild pitch for the 4-1 edge.
Adam Blackley (7-7) is the complete game winner. He threw nine full allowing one run off of five hits with two walks and nine strikeouts.
Alexander Francisco threw five innings allowing one run off of six hits with two walks and five strikeouts.
Matt Kretzchmar (3-1) takes the loss. He threw three innings allowing one earned run off of four hits with one walk and two strikeouts.
The Diablos are now five games out of first place with 17 remaining.
The Diablos will take Wednesday off before opening up a four-game series against the first place Grand Prairie Air Hogs on Thursday night in a double header. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM. Josh Kauten and David Whigham will be the starting pitchers for El Paso. The game will be carried live on www.diablos.com with Jon Barr on the call.
