Saints' Homers Down Goldeyes

The Saints utilized five early home runs to take control of the game. Alonzo Harris homered to left on the second pitch of the night from Goldeyes' starter Edwin Carl.
With first and second and two outs in the bottom of the inning, Jacob Rogers struck a two-run double to left-centre against former Major Leaguer Mark Hamburger to give Winnipeg a 2-1 lead.
The Saints (21-9) answered back with five runs in the top of the second. Tony Thomas chopped a single into left field and took second on a full-count walk to Willie Argo. Tony Caldwell golfed a three-run home run to left-centre to put the Saints back in front. On the next pitch, Chad Christensen homered down the left field line. Aaron Gretz followed with a walk and later scored the Saints' sixth run of the game on a two-out, RBI single to left-centre by Nate Hanson.
In the top of the third, Argo tripled to right-centre leading off and came home when Caldwell hit his second homer of the game. Three batters later, Harris connected for his second homer of the night, a solo shot to left.
Trailing 9-2 in the bottom of the sixth, Maikol Gonzalez singled to right-centre to break a run of 14 batters retired in a row by Hamburger. After Josh Romanski singled down the left field line, David Rohm crushed a three-run homer to left-centre to pull the Goldeyes within four.
Hamburger (5-0) picked up the win, allowing five runs, three earned, on eight hits over eight full innings. Hamburger did not issue a walk, struck out two, and finished at exactly 100 pitches.
Carl (2-2) took the loss, allowing nine earned runs on eight hits in two and two-thirds innings. Carl walked three and struck out four.
Zach Dando pitched two and one-third scoreless innings in relief of Carl. Kyle Anderson worked four innings in his first relief appearance of the year. Anderson allowed two earned runs on an RBI single from Hanson in the eighth, and a sacrifice fly from Christensen in the ninth.
Gene Escat relieved Hamburger in the bottom of the ninth and worked around two walks to close out the game.
Adam Heisler reached on an infield single in the bottom of the first and has hit safely in 14 consecutive games.
The series finale is Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. Left-handed pitcher Ethan Carnes (2-0, 3.45 with the Texas AirHogs) is expected to make the start in what will be his Goldeyes' debut. The Saints go with left-hander Kody Knauss (1-1, 4.41).
