Explorers Even Series with Game 2 Win

SIOUX CITY, Iowa - The AirHogs fell to the Sioux City Explorers 16-8 at Lewis and Clark Park Saturday. The X's used a 6-run bottom of the 4th and a 4-run bottom of the 8th to win going away.

The AirHogs took an early 2-0 lead against Sioux City starter Jordan Risse on 3 walks and a hit by pitch in the top of the 1st. But the Explorers responded with a 4-run bottom of the 1st vs. AirHogs starter Palmer Betts to quickly reclaim the advantage.

The AirHogs scored 3 times in the 3rd and added another 3 in the 4th on RBI doubles by Austin Gallagher and Mike Miller to make it 8-4.

But the Explorers once again quickly responded. They used an 11-batter, 6-run bottom of the 4th against Betts and relief man Roman Madrid to erase the deficit and once again stake the advantage. They would post 2 more in the 5th and 4 in the 8th to score 12 unanswered and even the series at 1 game apiece.

Betts took the loss, while reliever Jacob Kuebler got the win for the X's. Sioux City outhit the AirHogs 16-5. The home side had outfielders Matty Johnson and Michael Lang each reach 6 times to power the victory.

For the AirHogs, Miller, Gallagher and Lenahan each finished with 2 RBI.

The AirHogs (12-17) and Explorers (14-14) meet tomorrow in a rubber match in Sioux City. The AirHogs are expected to start RHP Matt Shepherd.
