WINGNUTS WALK OFF

The Wichita Wingnuts picked up their second walk-off win of the year Friday as Martin Medina hit a walk-off infield single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth to give the home team a 4-3 win over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. Trailing 3-1 in the seventh, Wichita began their comeback with a two-out RBI double by Brent Clevlen. In the following frame, Harrison Kain tied it up for the Wingnuts, bringing Medina home to tie the score. After Frankie Reed pitched a scoreless top of the ninth, Christian Stringer started the bottom half with a single. One out later, Clevlen singled and T.J. Mittelstaedt walked to load the bases. Medina chopped one up the third base line and Fargo third baseman Josh Mazzola had no play, and Zack Cox came home to give the Wingnuts their second walk-off win of the year and their ninth win in their last 10 ballgames. Wichita scored their first run of the night in the second, as Mittelstaedt led off with a triple and scored on a wild pitch. Fargo then took the lead with two unearned runs in the fourth and an insurance tally in the seventh.

MEDINA CLUTCH AGAIN

Since he was signed on June 7, Martin Medina has come through in many clutch situations for the Wingnuts. Last night, the Wichita backstop scored the tying run in the eighth on Harrison Kain's infield single, and then picked up the Wingnuts second walk-off hit of the year with an infield single of his own in the bottom of the ninth that scored Zack Cox. That single was Medina's second game-winning hit since joining the Wingnuts, as the Ventura, Calif., native also picked up a single in the top of the ninth on June 11 at Texas that broke a 6-6 tie, and gave Wichita a 7-6 win that night. In the six games since joining the Wingnuts, Medina has driven in five runs and scored seven times.

KUSSMAUL'S DEBUT

After getting signed on Friday, righty Ryan Kussmaul made his Wichita debut on the hill last night, working five innings and earning a no-decision. The former Chicago White Sox farmhand allowed just a pair of unearned runs over his five frames and scattered four hits. Kussmaul also did not walk a batter, and struck out four RedHawks for the night.
