
Sioux City Explodes for Sixteen Runs in Victory over Texas

Sioux City, IA- The Sioux City Explorers offense took fire Saturday night, erupting for sixteen runs to get the 16-8 victory over the AirHogs at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park.
The AirHogs scored two quick runs to start the game. X's starter, Jonathan Risse struggled to start the inning, walking a run in with the bases loaded and later allowing a run to cross on a 2-3 groundout, scoring the runner from third.
Sioux City answered with a loud bottom of the first, recording four runs to take the lead with insurance. AirHogs right-hander Palmer Betts had a rough outing on the mound as well, walking in a run with the bases loaded, while letting three more runs score on a wild-pitch and a base-hit single.
In the third inning, Texas took back the lead. AirHogs tallied their first run on an error by the pitcher which scored the runner from third base. Texas right-fielder, Cody Lenahan tied and recovered the lead with a two-run single, giving them the 5-4 lead.
The AirHogs chalked up three more runs in the fourth inning. Back-to-back doubles by Austin Gallagher (two-RBI) and Michael Miller (one-RBI) extended the Texas lead to 8-4, heading into the bottom of the fourth inning.
Explorers responded with a big fourth inning of their own, racking up six huge runs on five hits and two errors. Matty Johnson knocked in two with an RBI double, and later scored himself on a wild pitch for the first three runs. X's third baseman, Tommy Mendonca added a run with a base-hit single, scoring later himself on an error by the left-fielder. X's final run gained, came off an error produced stolen base, with Cunningham stealing home to score the tenth run for Sioux City.
Sioux City went on to tally up six more runs on the night, winning with a final score of 16-8 at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park.
